Dojo card processing rates UK: how much could you save on card fees?

If your business takes card payments — and in 2026, most UK business revenue comes by card — your processing fees are one of the most controllable costs you have.

Most small businesses simply accept whatever rate they're on. They signed up with Square or Zettle when they were starting out, the percentage seemed small, and they've never looked at it since.

The rate you pay may be costing you thousands of pounds per year more than it needs to.

The UK average card processing rate for small businesses is roughly 1–2% depending on card mix. Dojo at 0.3%/0.7% is 50–85% cheaper.

What this means in pounds

Let's use a real example. A salon doing £8,000/month in card sales with a typical 70/30 debit/credit split.

On Square (1.75% flat):

£8,000 × 1.75% = £140/month = £1,680/year

On Dojo (0.3% debit / 0.7% credit):

(£5,600 × 0.3%) + (£2,400 × 0.7%) = £16.80 + £16.80 = £33.60/month = £403/year

Annual saving: £1,277

Now scale that to a restaurant doing £30,000/month in card sales:

Square: £30,000 × 1.75% = £525/month = £6,300/year

Dojo: (£21,000 × 0.3%) + (£9,000 × 0.7%) = £63 + £63 = £126/month = £1,512/year

Annual saving: £4,788

These are not theoretical numbers. They're the actual difference between the two rates applied to real UK business volumes.

Why is Dojo so much cheaper?

Dojo operates as a payment facilitator (rather than a full acquiring bank) and passes the interchange savings directly through to merchants at competitive rates. They've built their business model around volume — acquiring large numbers of UK SME merchants at low rates rather than maximising margin per merchant.

The 0.3%/0.7% rates we quote are available through ReeveOS's Dojo reseller partnership. Independent businesses can get Dojo directly but may not always access the same rates.

The Dojo terminal and agreement

Dojo's card machine (terminal) is a standalone contactless device. Options in March 2026:

Agreements are typically 12-month terms.

The real question to ask yourself

Take your last 3 months of card sales. Total them up. Multiply by your current processing rate. That's what you paid in processing fees.

Now multiply the same total by 0.3% (for your debit card portion) and 0.7% (for your credit card portion).

The difference is money your business is paying unnecessarily every month.

For most UK independent businesses processing more than £5,000/month in card sales, switching to Dojo rates pays back the cost of any terminal within the first month.
